A quick, pleasant read. The main character is well developed, but the secondary characters are not. In fact, secondary characters are practically absent because, after the introductory section, the book is a series of short cases where characters make only a brief appearance. This is unlike an Agatha Christie or Dorothy Sayers mystery where characters make repeated appearances throughout the book and the mystery is fairly elaborate.

The quality of the cases leaves a lot to be desired as well. They are short and their resolution is somewhat deus ex machina. One of the cases features twins - you can't get more hackneyed than that!

Despite the shortcomings, the book was a fun enough read that I've bought the second book in the series.
