3 words: Holy f*cking sh*t. -- SO GOOD.

I went into this book without any expectations and knowledge of what it was even about. I didn't even know it was supposed to be "good."

I don't know how to sum up this read, without ruining it. My reviews can't possibly do this book justice, and so I'm just gonna gush about it.

A few thoughts:

1. This is so captivating--mentally and emotionally. Pain, fear, bravery/courage, sorrow, and EVERY feeling and emotion has been triggered and aroused throughout this book. I have NEVER read something this gripping before. Seriously, it blows every other dystopian novel out of the water.

2. The storyline is pure genius. It's like The Hunger Games meets Hogwarts-esque "houses"--factions of virtues (honesty, peace, bravery, knowledge, selfless). The scenery and society that this story takes place is just beyond brilliant. And it's even better because I'm from Chicago, and I know all of the subtle references to certain landmarks/places/buildings/attractions in the city.

3. The voice of this book really stood out for me. I think that if and when I become a writer in the future, God-willing, this is the kind of voice that I would use to really grab and pull the reader in.

4. Romance is definitely involved, but it really is secondary compared to the overall picture. What exactly is bravery? How does one overcome fear, if at all possible? Can selflessness reflect and intertwine with any of the other virtues?

5. The only downside of the book I can possibly think of is the lack of details regarding the history of their society. How did these factions come about? It was briefly mentioned that dispute over politics led to segregation, but really? Can something so extreme like that really happen and continue to exist without ANY other Divergents?

Simply put, this book is perfection at its finest. The good really does outweigh the bad. There isn't too much of one theme/element in the story. So many good things have been shown, and the fact that Veronica Roth is so young is just mind-boggling. If you haven't read it, get it. Read now, thank me later.
