recommended for: cry as* white people.

I’m sorry, but the theme for my book reading this year includes books about cry-ass white women. What is up with that? I’m usually not a fan. This one was sort of gothic..so it had that going for it. Marguerite is a lonely legendary chef on Nantucket Island who hasn't cooked for anyone since she sold her restaurant 14 years ago, following the death of her best friend Candace and her own brief stint in a psychiatric hospital. One night, her goddaughter…Candace’s 19 year old daughter, Renata Knox, calls very late at night and asks, “Aunt Daisy?". The sends Marguerite scrambling to come to terms with her past. We find out about Candace’s death, how rich people have too much time on their hands and other probing situations. It was a book that took me forever to read (2 times out of the library) and didn’t seem worth it, frankly. Book #42 of my 2006 Book List, finished reading it on 9-5-06.
