Word vomit.
Connection with land (Earth): associated with good sense, respect for nature, being grounded - root, strong ethic; alienation from the land associated with moral decline and corruption. House of Hwang - wealthy, estranged from land, their harvest are from hired farmers. While Wang Lung poor, harvests his own produce, connected with his land. We see this through out the book. Parallels. Some how when reading the book I kept thinking that Wang Lung would end up being like the Hwang family. From humble beginnings to abundance of wealth. The effect of greed can have on people and how easily it can ruin a person. The poor becomes rich; gets greedy, loses moral standing..the rich became poor...cycle. Also a good look at turn-of-the-century China.
