This is my favourite Austen. Hands down.

It's about a woman that was persuaded to refuse a proposal of a man she loved because he wasn't good enough for her--in status or in wealth. She regrets her decision but it's too late, Wentworth's gone off to war. However, eight years later, when he's acquired wealth and she's lost status and wealth, they met again. Will he forgive her? Can they be friends? Can they be more than friends?

I've seen all the movies made. And while I love them both, there is a scene in the book that both movies leave out, a scene that I think says more than anything. It's when she is tending to one of her nephews and another jumps upon her back. She can't seem to get him to stop playing around and who should come to her rescue? Wentworth!

If you're a fan of the classics, you must read this one. It's one of Austen's shortest work and also one of her most maturely written.
