I've read several of this author's book in the Inspector Rutledge series but this is the first I have read in the Bess Crawford series and I found it very enjoyable. The central character is a nurse and like the other series the stories are set in World War One Britain. The authors research their topic well and most of their books involve the issue of shell shock, what it did to the soldiers who served in the trenches and the lack of understanding of the people at home. The reader feels tremendous compassion for sufferers of shell shock. The mysteries are well plotted and the books are well written and I will definitely read more in this series.
