This book was unexpectedly amazing. I know it was fiction, but in its own way it brings the New Testament to life-- the slaying of the children in Bethlehem was so vivid, the suffering of the poor so real. Excellent story, great characters, and a proper blend of old tradition mixed with new "spin" to make this an extremely satisfying read.
