it was amazing

The story coming on home soon is written by Jacqueline Woodson, and illustrated by E.B. Lewis. This is a story about a young girl named Ada Ruth whose mother goes off to work in Chicago during the war. Her mother tells her she will be back and also will write her and send her money while she is away. Ada writes her mother but she doesn’t write back. Ada gets lonely and one day a kitten comes along and her grandmother who she is staying with lets her keep the cat. The kitten keeps her company while her mother is away. As time goes on Ada still does not get anything from her mother and she gets very sad. One day she gets a letter from her mother with money in it. Ada and her grandmother are so happy they read the letter over and over with each other. And in the letter her mother tells her she will be home soon. The plot of the story reflects historical times when the women were able to work during the war while the men were gone.
The age range for this book is Nursery to Intermediate. This will be a good book to read to younger children because they can relate to sometimes being lonely when their parent goes to work or away for a while. This also is a good book for intermediate readers because this is a book they can read on their own. The text is a little more advanced for younger readers.
The artistic element were good the book had lots of color and the pictures showed great
Emotions. The style of art used was impressionistic art that showed light and color.

I would recommend this book to many teachers and young readers. This book told will help young readers to learn history and also they will be able to relate to having someone they love leave them.
I would give this book a 5 star rating.
