The novel, The 158-Pound Marriage, revolves around a central relationship, or set of relationships, involving two married couples. As would somewhat be expected, things appear to go good for the relationship(s) in the beginning, while things gradually get more complicated and less carefree. As the story progresses, we are shown how each of the characters are human; How they are each desperate, fallible and fragile. In the end, everyone involved is damaged.
