This is a light, sparkling account of Queen Elizabeth, who just celebrated 60 years on the throne. The author is pro-monarchist almost to a fault, defending the royals against any kind of rumor or scandal--except for Princess Diana, about whom the author speaks with a seething contempt. I enjoyed the anecdotes and stories about Elizabeth's life, and this book made me appreciate how truly unique and devoted she really is. I have a new respect for her in her position--she really has spent her entire life devoted to being queen (which, of course, didn't leave a lot of time for mothering), and she has an education and perspective that cannot be duplicated. Overall, an enjoyable and not-too-challenging read.
