It's hard to give a book about such tragedy 5 stars. I give Stearns 5 stars for himself, too, for managing to so paintakingly flush out the origins, events, and consequences of actions that have left this part of Africa in a state of constant upheaval. The end leaves one feeling a bit hopeless about Congo's future, but with much more understanding of its complexities.
