it was amazing

This book was simply beautiful. First, the characters were very real. The story was told from a variety of perspectives. Usually, as a reader, I fall in love with one character and look forward to that character's chapter. In this book, I would be excited for each chapter. Also, as a historian, it was interesting to see the connection between the Civil Rights Movement and the movement for rights for mental health. Of course, it broke my heart that Lynnie was sent away so young to such a cruel, impersonal place. At the same time, my heart was warmed by the overwhelming generosity of Martha, who gave her word to Lynnie and followed through with a promise. I hope that other readers have the same enlightening experience I had!
