it was amazing

I loved reading the reviews for this one -- it's clearly one of those books that polarizes. I loved it, and think Ann Packer is a tremendous writer. The story revolves around a young woman from the Midwest who is feeling ambivalent about her relationship with her high school boyfriend. I think it would be fair to use that old cliche and say that she loves him but has fallen out of love with him. For most people, this would inevitably lead to a break up. Hearts broken a little, feelings hurt, but they'd both move on with time. In this case, something terrible happens that moves the relationship almost immediately to a deeper level of commitment.

I thought Packer writes with great sensitivity and perception. I related to the protagonist even when I abhorred her actions.

I think this one would appeal to fans of Anne Tyler or Ann Patchett (maybe it's an Ann/Anne thing!).
