Drift: The Unmooring of American Military Power
by Rachel Maddow
by Rachel Maddow
Rachel exceeded any expectation by a mile. Conspiracy theories, partisanship and opinions by a mile this is a rock solid argumentation on the path that the US took to get to this position. The military budget as of today is huge, uncontrollable and not up to discussion and Drift goes into the entire history of how this phenomena formed, developed and manifested itself in the very recent history. Whatever your opinion on the matter may be, this book could and should fire up many discussions not only in the US but worldwide. The argument in drift is rock solid that this current status-quo is financially, economically and socially unfortunate for the country, and the military super machine has been so decoupled from the public and congress, that nobody would actually make a solid stand against the ever-growing position of unnecessary, overpriced, overpaid use of force around the world. By making the argument of how and when the public and congress stopped having a say, and stopped wanting a say in this, in a simple matter of fact way Drift lays out a position that is widely known in the rest of the world, but undeniably widely unpopular in America.
I share the opinion that it is about time to contract american military presence and force around the world and relocate the funds for this in domestic policy. Rachel makes the argument that this is a conservative value, this is a founding principle that has been overstepped outside every reasonable boundary.
