Four stars for a solid, enjoyable, and interesting mystery read compared to some of the average efforts we've gotten in the In Death series. With this and the last couple books in the series it no longer feels like JD Robb is phoning it in when she writes each story. She's still using the same basic formula, but it's got more zip and creativity to the plot. As if Ms Robb is living her characters again instead of just observing them. It was fun to hang out with Eve, Peabody, Nadine, and Roarke and you could feel the characters growing. Admittedly, it was a little slow in the middle and the period when Eve didn't know who did it transitioned a little quickly, and magically, over to when she did know who did it. I didn't really mind, however, not knowing what tipped her off as it's fun to ride along when she's finally in kick-ass mode and tying together all the strings to close her murder case. You feel her satisfaction as the case comes together and she's able to take the murderer down and put him/her away. It was also kind of refreshing that she didn't get punched, stabbed, or beat up in such a way that she needed the MTs. It was also nice to see her & Roarke work on some of the rough spots in their relationship, like any couple. Overall a good follow-up to New York to Dallas.
