This book provides a vivid account of the desperation and deprivation of life in a city under siege. You have to live under those terrible conditions to understand some actions, motives feelings of Sarajevo inhabitants. Fesperman, who reported from Sarajevo during the aggression on Bosnia presented not only a wonderfully plotted mystery but also a story about huge civilians suffering and the effects of conflict upon works of art, and cultural heritage.
For someone who was just visiting Sarajevo, Friemen did nice job of capturing the life of people in Sarajevo during bloody 90ties.
