I am not really up to speed on American comedians. I always feel as a European it's very difficult to relate to American classic stand-up comedy or improv. On my 2nd US trip ever, I went to an improv club with American friends and really felt weird because I didn't get the humor.

Kathy Griffin however is another matter entirely. I love her. I kept seeing previews for My Life on the D-List while I was watching other Bravo shows like Top Chef or Project Runway. One day I had a really quiet day at work, and found My Life on the D-List on YouTube. Started watching, was hooked! Celebrity gossip I can put myself behind, and during the show I learned a lot about her, her family, and a lot about how terrible life in the showbiz really must be. I watched her solo shows, and I enjoyed them a lot. This is a woman who is absolutely shameless, who won't mince words. I love her support of her 'gays'.

Reading this autobiography is like watching one of her shows or D-List. I thought it really captures her voice perfectly, including liberal amounts of swearing. It was incredibly interesting to read about her roots and how she clawed her way up onto the D-List. I had no idea she was part of a sitcom for years, but then, sitcoms never really made it to primetime TV over here (unless they're the German version of The Office, Stromberg). In parts, she was brutally honest, with the stories about her brother Kenny, her failed marriage, and especially the Nip/Fucked chapter.

If you are a fan of Kathy Griffin, or can at least tolerate her, this is an incredibly entertaining book, and a very honest approach to life in Hollywood. The liposuction story was positively terrifying. However, if you hate her, or don't find her funny, don't pick up this book ever, because it won't make you change your mind.
