Just shy of being 50 tiny pages long, this story is a turning point in Lyra's life. Obviously there is a before. This book is the turning point where Lyra discovers how the "before" effected the world without her knowledge. I am sure that this new knowledge will affect her choices from now on. Other than that, it's a weird children's book.
