I love these books. Aside from the technical aspects of the books being well written, I am so relieved to have a strong female character! In comparison with Bella from Twilight, who is completely consumed by her obsessive "love" for Edward and wants nothing more than to give up her life, her being, her soul even to be with him, Katniss struggles to find and hold onto her identity in the midst of everyone around her telling her who to be and what to do. And yet that doesn't mean that she doesn't know the meaning of sacrifice, or that she isn't willing to lay down her life for those she loves. Her family, her friends, her district. People respond to her because her actions reveal her self-determination, compassion, and love for those around her. She is by no means perfect, but she is inspiring, and proves that it is possible for Panem to fight for themselves.

I will probably return to these books, I feel like I may find more in them a second time through.
