I would like to have given this beginning biography higher marks. I have had a tough time finding lower level biographies for my 1st and 2nd graders. While this title is a beginning biography, it is missing some key elements that would make it a great example of the genre. Conspicuously absent are key facts such as birth and death dates and where she lived. On the plus side, the book does provide a table of contents, an index, a very brief glossary (called "New Words"), and a short list of places to find out more. The information included isn't enough for my 2nd graders who need more facts for their wax museum project, but it does work as a nice springboard for comparing the book to our online encyclopedia. Great photos and organization-I just wish it had a few more facts or a brief timeline.
