It was fortuitous that I first picked up this book on what can only be described as a frustrating, low day where I had cried more than once and received numerous well-meaning platitudes. It was comforting to have an author write about how negative feelings should be accepted and explored and not glossed over with so much clarity and common-sense. I was engrossed immediately. The rest of the book was filled with honesty, deep insight into human nature, and amazingly affective analogies and metaphors. I found myself repeatedly saying “Yes!” to thoughts that seem so straightforward and commonsensical after Augusten Burroughs put them effectively into print but that have alluded so many of us for so long. There is something in this book for everyone. It is the self help book for people who loathe self help books. It is a book that should be read by all and will be enjoyed by all who do. I am grateful to First Reads to have had a chance to preview this sure-to-be hit.

I'm intrigued - what is "First Reads"? Also, the book sounds interesting as well, I think I would like it.

I think you would too. I can lend you this copy ;0)I won it in one of Good Reads' giveaways. First Reads is what they ask you to refer to (that is why publishers offer copies for draws) and to place it on a First Reads shelf. I am impressed with his humour and insight. I read "Running with Scissors" but much prefer this latest book.
