This story is about a little girl who is an orphan living in Paris with her care taker and other orphan friends. The book tells of how the group is inseparable- traveling everywhere in lines. The littlest of the group, madeline, has an emergency in the night and is rushed to the hospital. We later find out that the little girl needs to have her appendix removed. I found the story to be really well illustrated and an adorable story overall. I think it would be great to use in a class to teach that a "family" can look like a lot of different things. In the story, the girls really are Madeline's family and you can feel the love just through the depiction of the story. I think that this would be a great book for a wide variety of readers because the text is not too complicated, however, it would be a long book that should be broken up into chunks for really little/beginner readers.
