Sieta's parents have died (back matter explains their situation) and she goes to live with her aunt in a place Sieta calls "Home Now." She struggles to accept her new home and keeps mental pictures of her past "behind her eyes" to remember. But, on a school field trip she meets an orphaned baby elephant and immediately feels connected to him. Slowly she begins to let pictures of the past fade, begins to heal, and accepts her "Home Now" as HOME. Expansive watercolors support the emotional content of this important story. Good for global issues, grades 3+
