Getting my hands on one of Pratchett's Discworld books again was like being reintrodouced to an old friend. I love the funny-but-serious semi-mystical way Pratchett writes, and I don't care what anybody says, this man writes the best fight sequences of all time (Homer not excepted--I get distracted when battles go in meter). This one is about my personal favorite character, old Sam Vimes, captian of the Night Watch, who wears old shoes so he can tell where he is in the city by the feel of the cobblestones. There's also some wild philosophical stuff in here about the nature of time and morality-- a typical Discworld novel, really.
