“Tacky The Penguin” is a delightful story of a penguin that doesn’t fit into the mold of what a penguin should be. His individuality causes some problems with others but helps save them in the end. This is a great book to teach children to be who they are.

You could extend this book by bringing in a bowl of mixed fruit. Let children examine them and ask if all the fruits are the same. Identify each fruit. Discuss how each one is different but gives us something special that our bodies need. Like the fruit, we are all different and special.
