This was a well-reasoned, well-document and well told account of the recent crisis; the causes and the policy response. The main conclusion, or so I read it now, that the policy resolution of the crisis would have been better if existing financial institutions had beeen broken up and management replaced (and punished more severely?) seems to me still an open question. Might that approach have done more short-term damage to an already battered economy? We can still work at creating a robust regime that better limits the excesses of financial actors even though familiar names are on the mastheads.
