ErinHart wrote this modern mystery, set in USA and Northern Ireland. A principal theme is that of a selkie (a seal turned human) as a metaphor for the increasing power of women and the threat that this might hold in a rural, superstitious society. A strong woman might end up in a bog, and the townspeople conveniently having a group abdication of moral responsibility by saying that she had gone back to her seal friends. A reference to a work by Evans-Wentz on fairy tales is made. Of course, the core story is about a sister's dogged pursuit of her sister's murderer, her husband. She has also written Haunted Ground and Lake of Sorrows.
