really liked it

this is a complex but rewarding novel, set in the 19th century, during the Opium Wars with China. I learned a lot from it -- like the British fought the war to be allowed to sell opium. It is a salty mix -- with authentic sounding nautical patois. There are love stories, deceptions, debauchery and heroism. It ends with a cliff hanger, and I can't wait for the sequel.
