Probably the most beautifully printed novel ever. The text changes color as the narrator resorts to different inks to tell his story of being a convict down under in Tasmania. Full of watercolors of the fish he uses to relate his life as a forger, a liar, and a thief, as I recall. What I found unforgettable was the irascible voice of the man condemned to one of the most vicious of all penal colonies and the loveliness of the illustrations he leaves behind for another prisoner to find.
