Nick My sense was that Reamde was about 30 percent longer than was remotely justifiable.

message 2: by Ian (new) - rated it 3 stars

Ian Could have definitely benefited from some judicious editing, but there was also a *lot* of chekhov's guns all over the place. every incidental detail ended up being somehow tied into later events, even while major plot points didn't really get resolved. My main complaint was that it just didn't seem to have the thematic framework that saves his his other works in this vein, other than the usual libertarianism & schlubby-engineer-saves-the-world thing. But, I mean, I tore through it anyway.

Nick Oh man: "the usual libertarianism & schlubby-engineer-saves-the-world thing."

SOOOOOOOO apt. The aptest.
