I think this is a cute story, and even though the story isn't original, the retelling is unique. Ellison did a good job recreating this fairytale, and she put her own spin on the situation. The house she created was very interesting and original. There aren't many characters in this story, but the characters associated with the house were unique.

I'm not sure why I felt the story was a little less intense and interesting than I would have liked. I found a bit of the characterizations lacked depth, and I wasn't completely convinced by character motivation. Still it was a cute story and an easy read. I haven't read a lot of fairytale retellings, so I'm not sure what to expect with them. I would give this one 3.5 stars out of 5.
