This is a story spoken from the perspective of an Romanian old man, who was forced into a Russian labor camp at the age of 17. He lived in the camp for five years, and the experience colored his entire life. He witnessed and experienced intense hunger, degradation, illness and cold. In this camp of hundreds, hundreds died of starvation and exposure. Although this is an intensively sad story, I highly recommend it for its beautiful writing and its rare insights into the survival of camp prisoners.
