recommended for: Any one interested in historical novels.

Tracy Chevalier writes with her usual insights into the minds of very different personalities. This time her setting is London in 1792 and she relates the tale of a family newly arrived from a rural area to work in a circus. Their lodgings are next door to a house owned by the famous poet and revolutionary William Blake. He has an enormous influence on the developing maturity of the Kellways' children who gradually embrace a bustling, exciting city unimagined in their earlier years. Easy to read. Lively, serious, funny, even very sexy at times. It has been carefully researched so its a win/win situation. A worthwhile read and (should the occasion ever arise!!) you will be able to dazzle with your knowledge of "the Age of Dissent".
