Two young 20 something "friends" work to repair a relationship that went terribly wrong when they were in a private High School in San Francisco. Annie and her mother had come from Ecuador to live in the carriage house on the property of the Pacific Palisades Mansion of the St. Clair's. Lucia had fled her home country when she was pregnant with Annie at the age of 16. Lolly and Tad St.Clair had a baby daughter, Julia as well. Lucia was the nanny and the girls grew up together as childhood friends. Even though Annie went to the same elite high school as Julia she was out of place and soon was an outcast. Ten years later, both having completed college and begun working careers they reconnect when Julia comes home from the east coast to plan her wedding. Both have old wounds and secrets that threaten to keep them apart. The cupcakery, "Treat," they open together in the Mission district they face more than just the damage of their childhood friendship.

If you love cupcakes you will love the descriptions of those created and baked by Annie!!

Some of the secondary characters were too stereotyped and shallow. And that left a bit of a sour taste that took away from the importance of the story.
