What a heartbreaking and thought-provoking book! I knew absolutely nothing about the Hmong people before reading this and it was fascinating to learn about them and then step back and look at it with a sociological approach in class. It was very well written and a book that I was okay with the teacher giving us a short time frame to read it in because you do lose yourself in it, even with the few times I needed a breather from the heavy material. My class is The Sociology of Health & Illness and this last section has been about alternative medicines, this book taught me more than just that, though it did make me realize how little I know about medicine, alternative and conventional.
