These books should be illegal they're so addicting. No, really.
Just the right amount of everything. Loads of adventure and peril and defending the spirit world and learning new abilities and meeting worse and worse wizards. Only a speck of romance, which is the best amount.
There was so much more character in this book, more of Eli and more of Miranda as we learn about their pasts and abilities and what drives them. We also learn more of how the world is structured and run. The dialogue is superb, although I do wish there was more inner dialogue, especially on Eli's part, because I'd like to know what he is planning. Yet, not knowing makes it interesting, too.
Sword fighting! Spirit fighting! Debate fighting!
Money, loyalty, Eli showing off, and everyone trying to stop the bad wizards. Brilliant.

I'm currently using these books to bribe myself to do homework and study for finals. I really should have waited until summer, however.
