The first Pekkala novel by Eastland and a great debut. Based around the instability and insecurity of a cold, barren Revolution Russia an intriguing investigation is set in motion. As to who or what needs to be discovered is unclear but Emerald Eye, the infallible Inspector Pekkala and once the most trusted man in Russia is in the thick of it. His presence and reverence whilst encouraging brings another past and mystery into play which could not only jeopardise the case but also of those involved.

A little wooly around the edges that should become ironed out with future novels. I'll be looking out for them for sure..
