This book - it's heartbreaking. It's vivid, beautifully written even as it explores ugly, ugly things. You read it and you think, no one could have come through this. No one could do the things to someone else that some of the Nazis do. But somehow, you know. they could and they did, and it makes you feel hollow inside.

The visuals, the people she meets and touches along the way, all are fantastically rendered, like people you could imagine meeting yourself if you life were in such horrible circumstance. I highly recommend this book - but keep your kleenex handy, because this is also a very emotional story.
