Berry's work is extremely descriptive. Sometimes, so much so, that you have a hard time getting through the pages. However, the story that threads its way through this descriptive narrative is beautiful in its own right. Sad, honest, and gripping, you find yourself immersed in Port William and its inhabitants to the point that you feel you might be a citizen yourself.
