** spoiler alert **
This is one of the best series I have ever read. Suzanne Collins captures your attention right from the very beginning and holds it until the very last page. It does take awhile to get used to the writing style. She kills off characters that she has lead the reader to think are important. But it all comes from Katniss's point of view. This is the way she's sees death at the end of the books after all she went through.
Although the ending is sad and depressing, there would not have been a better ending to the series. The author stayed completely true to her characters, making them as real as possible. After everything Katniss had been through, how could she have lived any differently after the whole thing was over? Was it disappointing when the series ended? Yes, but the author did an excellent job.
The author also gave the books more than just an interesting story. She gives a warning with the political side of the books. They are an example of what America could some day become if there is too much government control. Maybe there won't necessarily be the "Hunger Games," but there will be hard times for the general population. The author does and excellent job of making the reader aware of the problems with the Capitol and Panem.
All of this to say, I thoroughly enjoyed the books. They are a great read for anyone!
