This volume takes place in New Orleans, Lousiana. It's entitled "Bloodlust" because both Stefan and Damon are newborn vampires and when you're a newborn vampire you have bloodlust cravings for human blood. They had to leave Virginia because they were supposed to be dead and the town they lived in had Vampire hunters, thus they didn't want to be caught. In New Orleans, Stefan and Damon have different views about being undead immortals. Stefan seems to revel in it and Damon wants to die. Stefan meets vampires in New Orleans who try to teach him how to be a good vampire, especially by not attracting attention to oneself. Damon is captured by a man who owns a Circus. Damon is part of a freak show where he is put in a ring and has to fight for his life against beasts like Lions. Stefan tries to save Damon and starts working for the Circus. He befriends the Circus owner's daughter, Callie. Stefan wants to save Damon because they intend to kill Damon. Stefan's plans to rescue Damon fails. There's a profound death at the end of the book and Stefan almost dies. The book ends with some vampires having to leave New Orleans because they are wanted for the death of one of the characters. This was an easy read since it's for Young Adults. I think I read it in less than 4 hours. Vampire Diaries fans will enjoy this book.
