I truly enjoy it when an author writes about an era in such a way that I almost feel part of it. This novel about WWI, the Titanic and the fascination with spiritism did just that for me. The historical aspect was obviously very well researched.
It was interesting reading about the apparent wide spread addiction to drugs at that time as a way to see into the future or connect with the spirit world. Those who were wealthy seemed to be the real believers, perhaps because they had enough money to buy the drugs that helped them see deceased loved ones. They were also the ones who ended up in 'asylums', or as well call it today...rehab.
After reading this, I'm certainly thrilled that I can't see into my future! One day at a time for me, thanks.
