it was ok

Maybe because it was a translation and not the original I felt the flow of the language very disconnected. It was abrupt and shifted from one scene to another very haphazardly. Having said that I can see the story trying to bring out the frustrations and pent up energy a young widowed woman in 1900 India may have felt and the repercussions of letting those out and the damages it can cause.

Chris I totally agree with this review. Something was lost in the translation. It was interesting from an historical perspective regarding women's acceptable roles and behaviors within Bengal society.
