Franklin writes with such brilliance that at times you feel he cares too much; which sounds ridiculous, but overly descriptive passages tend to stunt the pace and there were occasions here where I stalled and wondered where I was being led. And as with any crime novel, you have to be led somewhere down the unexpected route. Unfortunately you saw it all coming. Will reach for another Franklin novel though, because he is a dazzling writer and I loved his evocation of the south.
