Bridge to Terabithia is about two very creative young children, Jess and Leslie. They live next to each other andgo to school together. Jess meet Leslie during a race at school which she won. They became really good friends after that. They made up a place called Terabithia, in there they could face all of their every day fears and defeat them. One day Jess goes to Washington D.C. with Miss Edmunds, while Leslie decided to go to Terabithia alone. While swinging on the rope, it breaks and Lesie falls into the creek and drowns. Jess is forced to face his biggest fear, losing a friend, on his own.
In the story, the characters resemble real people. An example of this is how at the beginning of the book Jess is trying to become the fastest sprinter in his school. The events are very plausible and children would believe that they could happen. The events are two people become best friends, have an imaginary land, one doesn't go and the other goes and drowns, and the one has to face his fear. The events actually could happen to a child.
I feel that this book would be good to use doing a friendship lesson. It woul also be good to keep on hand just in case one of your students have a friend that dies. It uses really good coping methods
