Considering this book has not been in print for over 100 years, it still makes for good reading. I must admit there is less about the actual circumstances of the disaster which befell the Maori and much more of the differences between the social classes of the 2 main characters.

However, I found this to be a compelling read and did provide a fascinating insight to the class differences of Victorian England, bearing in mind this is only 2 or 3 generations ago, it shows just how things have moved on.
