This is a magical book full of - literally - magical characters. Set at the turn of the 20th century, it's a fanciful tale of an itinerant circus unlike any other. With acts not unlike our own Cirque du Soleil, the magic is not only in the performances, but in the aesthetic of the circus. I still don't know if I completely understand the last part of the book, but was enthralled nonetheless. I marvel at
people who can imagine such stories, let alone write them with such skill.
