This is kind of an odd kid's book. I liked it at the beginning--it's very timely with the kids trying to understand what's going on as their mother tries to deal with bills and eventually has their house taken away. But it jumps into fantasy territory fairly early on and, although you may be able to guess what's going on, it doesn't let you get a firm grip on the story for quite a while. Books that hold back information can be fun, but I like to have some idea of where I am and what's happening, so although this was fun, it wasn't my favorite book. Not to give anything away, but it's also a topic where you might want to know what you're getting into, and you really don't until the last chapter.
