This is a fast-paced, fun novel.

My BIG problem with White Oleander is that I was working on my novel, got into a graduate program based on the first four chapters, then went to a different grad school for poetry instead, scrapped novel-writing for a while--and then White Oleander comes out, and I thought--Oh. My. God. That's my novel! Not exactly, but enough to be frustrating that someone else did it first. And so well. So I honestly don't know when I'll get over this and finish the damned thing.

I really love the character of the mother (Ingrid) in this novel and the "voice" of Astrid throughout.
