Read from April 18 to 22, 2012

I purchased this book because it claimed the author, Kearsley, could write the modern day "Rebecca". "Rebecca" is an all time favorite, and not many can rival the writings of Du Maurier. The reviews, also, state Kearsley's writings have a Gabaldon fan base. With both being said I had to give it a try. The first few chapters threw me at first as it started in modern times, and I went into it thinking it was all set in the 1700's. At the time, I didn't want anything modern, and considered putting it down...something stopped me. Daniel Butler, perhaps?? Either way, this book consumed me. There were parts that seemed too familiar, as if Du Maurier's "Rebecca", "Frenchman's Creek" & Gabaldon's "Outlander" got together and made a baby. But the more I got deeper into the book it took on its own personality...separating itself from the close minded opinion I had given it earlier. The characters were beautiful and enchanting. It was sweetly written with excellent surprises. By the end of the book my chest hurt as I was craving more. I will definitely read this book again. <3
